Congrats! You've integrated Stay AI to Klaviyo, and you're now ready to create Klaviyo flows specifically for your subscribers. This article will walk you through the basics of how to use Stay AI's pre-created flow templates as well as how to create a flow using the correct metrics to target your subscribers.

Before You Get Started

Read through our Klaviyo guides to familiarize yourself with the integration, metrics and properties that are passed, and available Quick Actions.

How to Use Stay's Pre-built Flow Templates

Stay AI has the following pre-built templates in its Klaviyo account. Billing Attempt Failed

  • Billing Attempt Failed

  • Order Upcoming

  • Payment Method Expiring

  • Promotion Applied

  • Subscription Cancelled

  • Subscription Started

  • Subscription Winback

  • Yearly Upcoming Order

Each of these flows include filters and default email content with dynamic variables to populate information such as customer name and order contents. All of these can be customized once the templated flows are copied over to your Klaviyo account.

1. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager or Onboarding Manager. Include the flows you would like copied over into your Klaviyo account.

2. Add your CSM or OM to your Klaviyo account as a manager. Once your CSM/OM has access to your Klaviyo account, they will be able to copy over the flow into your Klaviyo account.

3. Once the desired flow(s) has been copied over to your Klaviyo account, you can customize the flow structure and email templates to fit your brand visual and voice. More information on how to create and edit flow emails here.

How to Build Klaviyo Flows Using Stay AI Metrics

Here is the Klaviyo documentation to understanding flow triggers and filters. It is highly recommend to review the guide before getting started.

Creating a New Flow in Klaviyo

1. Open the Klaviyo app

2. Navigate to Flows and click Create flow in the top right corner of the page

3. Click Build your own in the top right corner

4. Enter the flow name (e.g. Subscriber Winback), and click Create flow

Setting the Flow Trigger and Filters

1. On the right-hand panel of the flow builder, select Your metrics > API

2. All the Retextion metrics will populate. Select the metric you would like triggering the flow. The metric is the action that the customer takes to automatically trigger and send the email in the flow.

NOTE: You will see two sets of metrics, one that starts with Retextion and one that starts with Stay. Please use the metric that starts with Retextion (e.g. Retextion - Order Upcoming).

3. OPTIONAL: Add any trigger filters or profile filters. Here is more information on Klaviyo's flow filters.

4. Click Save to save your trigger setup. You will need to Confirm and save on a following pop-up to understand that the trigger itself (e.g. the metric you have selected to trigger the flow) cannot be changed after it is saved.

Building and Testing the Email Notification in the Flow

On the left-side panel of the flow builder are all the available actions that you can add to your flow. Drag and drop the desired actions into the flow.

1. Drag the email action to your flow.

2. Either click the three dots in the email block and click Edit, or click Select template in the right-side email editor, if you have a pre-created template you would like to use/work off of.

Also in the right-side editor, change the email name (for internal use only) and subject line. For more information on how to create and edit flow email content, check out Klaviyo's guide here.

3. Once your flow email content is what you would like it to be, make sure that to preview and test the email. Here is more information on previewing and testing flow content.

NOTE: When sending a test email, the profile data that is populated in the email for any dynamic content will be that of the profile that is shown in the preview mode of the flow email.

5. When you are done building/editing your flow email, click Exit (the email will automatically save).

6. On the next screen, click Done, if you are happy with the subject line, preview text, and sender information.

Enabling the Flow

You should now be back in the flow view. If you are done building the flow structure, click Review and turn on. You will be prompted to set the status of the flow. Set the status to Live, and click Turn on.

IMPORTANT! If you have built an email flow in Klaviyo that is meant to replace any email notifications in Stay, please make sure to go back into your Stay app to disable those email notifications.

For example, if you have built an Order Upcoming flow in Klaviyo, make sure you disable the Upcoming Charge email in the Stay app > Notifications > Emails.
