What is "Split Subscriptions"?
Stay allows customers to create a subscription with multiple products, that ship at the same time. While this function increases overall AOV, sometimes customers consume products at varying rates. Maybe the protein powder is an everyday staple on their subscription, but the supplement they included only gets consumed once a week.
This is where Split Subscriptions enters. We now allow customers to select the product they wish to move to a new frequency, and "split" it into a new subscription. This will create a brand new subscription, where the customer can update their new frequency as desired.
Enabling Split
In order to enable the ability to split subscriptions for customers:
Navigate to the Subscription Setup --> Selling Plans page on the Stay merchant portal
Select Merge and Split Settings
Under Split Settings, toggle "Allow Split Settings" to "On"
Click "Save"
Subscriptions with more than one subscription product will now be able to be split on both the customer and merchant portal.
Splitting Subscriptions in the Merchant Portal
Navigate to the subscriptions or subscription details page to split a subscription with multiple products within it. Click the "Edit Subscription" drop down, and select "Split Subscription" from either view.
You will then select which product you'd like to move onto a different subscription. Click "Next", then "Confirm Split", and the new subscription will be created.
The initial subscription, or "Subscription A" will have a "Split" tag at the very top. Additionally, the History will display the selected lines, and new subscription ID of the newly created subscription.
Splitting Subscriptions on the Customer Portal
Within the drop down on the subscription card, your customers will see "Split Subscription".
Once selected, they will be prompted to select all of the products they wish to split into a new subscription.
Click "Next", then "Confirm", and the new subscription will be created.
Will Splitting Subscriptions work for all subscriptions?
There are a few caveats to this question. The following subscriptions are not eligible for Split, even if there are more than one recurring product on the subscription:
Bundles
Prepaid Subscriptions
Calendar Subscriptions
Calendar Prepaid Subscriptions
How will discounts work when a subscription is Split?
We will not carry over or apply any discounts to the new subscription from the original subscription, or "Subscription A"
If a discount is no longer valid on the original subscription, it will be removed
