Our support for merchants does not just stop at creating market-leading retention tools to maintain your existing subscribers. We also provide tools to enable one-time to subscription conversion, as well as target upsells for customers at checkout.

As with all things Stay, Easy Upsells enables you to create streamlined, simple, and effective solutions to bolster acquisitions and drive increased AOV. Battling with a complex setup is completely unnecessary, using the Stay AI extensions app blocks for Easy Upsells.

What are the Stay Easy Upsell Checkout Extensions?

Native Shopify blocks, that pull in products tagged accordingly to display at checkout for 1) upselling their one time purchase to a subscription purchase, or 2) encourage cart add-ons at checkout.

Please Note: Checkout Extensions are only available for use by stores on a Shopify Plus plan.

We've created multiple options for your upsell extensions that can be used alone, or together, including the "Stay Inline Checkout Upgrade" extension and the "Stay Checkout Addons" extension.

"Stay Inline Checkout Upgrade" Extension

This extension is made for merchants who prefer simplicity. This extension will dynamically render an Upgrade link for any one-time product that is currently in the customer's cart.

How to Get Started with the "Stay Inline Checkout Upgrade" Extension

  1. Navigate to your Shopify store

  2. Navigate to the editor for your checkout page

  3. Select "Stay Inline Checkout Upgrade" Extension

  4. Enable "Include app block in Shop Pay" if you desire the Upgrade to display when a customer is using Shop Pay at checkout

  5. Click Save and set your extension live!

NOTE: This extension can only be placed in the "Items in Cart" section. It will automatically display within this section and cannot be moved.

How the "Stay Inline Checkout Upgrade" works

The extension will determine the highest subscription value available for the variant, as well as the first available selling plan frequency associated to that discount.

If a customer clicks the "Upgrade to subscription and save [X]%" link, we will replace the one-time product with the subscription product, offered on a recurring basis at the applicable discount.

"Stay Checkout Addons" Extension

This extension enables merchants to not only upgrade one time purchases to subscription, but also upsell existing carts with subscription purchases, or additional add ons!

How to Get Started with the "Stay Checkout Addons Extension"

  • Navigate to your Shopify store

  • Tag all products you desire to be displayed in the extension with "checkout-addon"

  • OR navigate to the Shopify Collections page, click on the desired collection you wish to drive upsells from, and find your Shopify Collection ID at the end of the URL

NOTE: You will not see Upgrade or Add options for products in the "Stay Checkout Addons" extension unless they are properly tagged, or a collection ID is provided.

  • Navigate to the editor for your checkout page

  • Select the section you would like to have the upsell block display in, and click "Add app block"

  • Select "Stay Checkout Addons"

  • Configure your extension title, add-on variant selection title, and add-on frequency title. If you do not provide input, the default content will be:

    • Add-on title: You Might Like...

    • Add-on variant selection title: Option

    • Add-on frequency selection title: Frequency

  • Determine the maximum amount of products you wish to be show in the widget

More on Maximum Products Count

  • By default, Shopify will render up to 12 products

  • If you input "0", this will cause the "Stay Checkout Addons" extension not to display

  • The products that display will be randomly selected based on either the applied product tags, or the collection ID

  • Select if you would like to allow for One Time upsells, or just subscription.

  • Select if you would like the product that is currently in the cart as a one time product to have the Upgrade to subscription option displayed FIRST in the list

  • Determine if you would like to have the One Time Purchase option display first in the selection list

  • Determine if you would like to Target variants

What happens if I "Target variants"?

Selecting "True" will enable customers to add products at the variant level. Selecting "False" will add products at the parent product level.

  • If you wish to restrict the selling plan options that are available on the Upsell widget, list the gid for each pertinent selling plan in the "Allow Selling Plans" section

What Happens If I Don't Input Selling Plans in the "Allowed Selling Plans" Section?

Any selling plans associated to the products will display as frequency options for your upsell products. Adding selling plans to the "Allowed Selling Plans" section is not necessary.

How do I find the Selling Plan Gid Value?

If you have an active API Key with "Read Subscriptions" scopes in Stay AI, you can pull this by visiting docs.stay.ai and navigating to the Query Subscription by ID endpoint. Input your API Key, and the subscriptionID of a subscription with your desired selling plan. Hit "Try It!".

In the response, copy the "sellingPlanID" value. This is the "gid" value needed to be input in the Easy Upsell "Allowed Selling Plans" section.

  • Hit "enter" between allowed selling plans if you desire to limit the selling plan options

  • Drag the extension to the section you desire on your checkout page

  • Hit "Save" and set your extension Live!

How the "Stay Checkout Addons Extension" works:

Your customers will see the extension block at checkout. If they have an existing product from your "checkout-addon" category or applicable collection as a one-time product at checkout, they will see an option to "Upgrade".

If they select the upgrade, they will see their one time product removed and replaced with the subscription product. The selected frequency and relevant selling plan discount will be applied.

If your customers add any applicable subscription product, it will be added at the frequency and relevant selling plan discount to their cart. The total will be automatically calculated, and the customer will proceed to checkout.
